Lots of people talk about "open source evangelists" and "open source evangelism" (google it). Evidently, even Microsoft was, at one time, even looking to hire an "open source evangelist" (http://www.linux.com/feature/59181).

So I don't think most people would find it anywhere near offensive. It is an honest tag.

Thanks....nice to know...sometimes I like the looks of things over proficiency...remember average user mom here. Cute things. The Duck was cute and I could change the color of the duck.That was cool. (see I am still the non techi just like cute things mom too..) However, it seems like Pidgin can do more I got frustrated with Adium and went back to just using individual chat clients on the Mac. Then had most of my friends switch to gtalk, or Skype...I can admit every OS has some level of frustration. Depends on the perspective I guess.

Yes, Adium uses libpurple, the pidgin backend library, to do all it's actual communications. It has it's own frontend and plugin system though, which means that it can't take advantage of the large number of Pidgin plugins that are available:

Open synaptic and search for 'pigdin-' and you'll get a list of pidgin plugins that you can install.

On ubuntu, I would recommend pidgin-libnotify instead of guifications if you want notifications - but try it and see.

Also, when installing fonts, install them through Synaptic if possible (open Synaptic and search for ttf) or follow this guide:

either use the Synaptic bit, or the manual bit, if the font you want isn't available via the package manager.

To install a bunch of excellent fonts from the repositories, copy and paste this into a command prompt:

sudo apt-get install ttf-liberation ttf-inconsolata

Also, try searching synaptic for 'larabie' - all the free fonts from here are available: http://www.myfonts.com/browse/foundry/larabie/

There are a bunch of templates that you can install for scribus using the Synaptic Package Manager (It's on the System Menu, in Administration)

Start synaptic, then press ctrl+f, type in 'scribus' (without the quotes) & press enter. Then, if you haven't already, you probably want to tick:

create-resources
scribus-template

The scribus documentation is also available in that list:

scribus-doc (or -ng-doc, depending which version of scribus you have installed)

Then click the Apply button and wait.

Alternatively you can do all that lot in one go, just by copying and pasting this command into a terminal and pressing enter:

sudo apt-get install scribus-template create-resources scribus-doc

It'll then ask you for your password, just like Synaptic will - enter it to continue.

Remember - using the terminal isn't a bad thing - it's just another software tool to get stuff done. There are also links with more scribus stuff:

I'm not saying any of these templates are any good for what you need - but you can try them out and see :)
